Oxygen Not Included runs an entire gameplay system around oxygen production, CO2 buildup, and temperature management, all before dealing with food, water, or the colony's psychological state. Pull one system wrong, and the cascade starts. Players who fix problems in isolation — patching the oxygen issue without checking how it affects temperature find the same crisis reappearing from a different direction.
Space Engineers takes a different route: physics-based construction where every block, every thruster, and every weight distribution matters to whether the ship actually flies. Bolt panels together wrong, and the structure holds in the atmosphere but tears apart under engine thrust.

Surviving Mars puts colonists inside pressurized domes on the Martian surface. Outside the domes: no breathable air, extreme temperature swings, and dust storms that shut down solar panels for days at a time. Every dome depends on surface equipment that can malfunction. Every malfunction threatens the humans inside.
The decisions are compound. Build smaller domes, and they are easier to maintain, but limit population growth. Build larger and the demands on life support and power increase faster than the supply chain can keep up. Import too many colonists before the infrastructure is ready, and the colony cannot feed them. Wait too long, and the funding runs out.
